what does a session typically look like?
We Start with an Initial Consultation, this can take form before meet via a zoom call or upon first meeting in person before needling.
Prior to treatment i will ask questions about you: Like what is bringing you in to receive acupuncture? Any Current symptoms? any medical history? treatment goals? you may be asked about your lifestyle, diet, gastrointestinal patterns, sleeping patterns and stress levels or triggers.
Next is a physical assessment where i check your wrist pulse and look at your tongue. this assessment aligns with the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, to help develop a diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your individual need.
you will lay comfortably on the treatment table with your loose clothing on. I will palpate and wipe areas to be needled with 70% Rubbing alcohol before needling.
once needles are in place i will leave you to rest for up to 30-40 minutes. during the needle retention i encourage you to rest quietly and relax with little movement to ensure the maximum effect of the treatment.
after the needle retention, i will remove needles and check in to see how you are feeling. we will discuss any lifestyle recommendations and next steps to treatment plan.

According to traditional Chinese medicine theory, acupuncture works by stimulating specific points along energy channels in the body, called meridians, to restore balance and promote the body's natural healing process. From a Western perspective, acupuncture may trigger the release of neurotransmitters, such as endorphins, which can reduce pain and inflammation.
-
Acupuncture is used to address a wide range of conditions, boh physical and emotional. While it’s effectiveness varies per individual, some common condtions treated are:
Chronic pain ( back pain, neck pain, joint pain)
Headaches/Migraines
Neurological Disorders (sciatica, multiple sclerosis, stroke Rehab)
Gastrointestinal Disorders (constipation, IBS, acid reflux)
Reproductive Issues (infertility, menstral disorders, menopausal symptoms)
Respiratory Disorders (asthma, allergies, sinusitis)
immune system support
Cardiovascular support
mental health (anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction)

When performed by a trained and licensed practitioner, acupuncture is considered safe. The needles used are sterile and disposable, reducing the risk of infection.
However, there may be some minor side effects, such as soreness, bruising, or bleeding at the needle insertion site which are commonly seen. These side effects dissipate within minutes to a couple days.
-
nope! sensations can vary from person to person. Some may feel a slight tingle or dull aches when needles are inserted, while others may not feel anything at all.
i work with the patient to breath through needling to better help relax the mind and body while needling to maximize the treatment effect. I encourage the patient to communicate if there is any discomfort and we modify from there.
Common frequently asked Questions:
-
The number of acupuncture sessions needed depends on the individual's condition, its severity, and how their body responds to treatment. Some people experience significant improvement after just a few sessions, while others may require ongoing treatment for chronic conditions. We’ll navigate what a treatment plan would look like after the initial intake.
-
The timing of results can vary depending on the individual and their condition. Some people experience immediate relief or improvement after a single acupuncture session, while others may require multiple sessions over time to see significant changes. It's important to be patient and consistent with treatment.
-
there certainly is stigma that surrounds being needled, however these needles are not like the ones you get a shot with at the doctor’s office. Acupuncture needles are typically made of high-quality stainless steel, which are durable, sterile, and non-reactive, designed to minimize any discomfort upon insertion.
if you want to be treated but would not like to be needled, i offer other alternatives such as cupping, guasha, tui na and acupressure.
